After undergoing a renovation, Drexler Shower Door & Custom Glass has debuted an updated showroom at 1452 Northside Drive in Atlanta. The showroom features full-size vignettes displaying the latest shower enclosure designs, a large selection of shower glass and a selection of shower doorknobs, pulls and accessories. ”We are doing some amazing things with glass these days!” says owner David Drexler. “From glass stair treads to colored glass backsplashes, we are seeing glass applications play a more central role in some very exciting residential designs. There are literally hundreds of patterns and colors of glass and mirror to choose from. We wanted our showroom to provide an organized, contextual way of showing designers and homeowners what is actually being done with glass. For example, our cabinet glass display lets you see what a cup or bowl would look like through each pattern. And that’s just the beginning!”

A recent furnace problem encountered by a new homeowner confirmed the urgency of critter security around the home. The furnace simply stopped working. No problem with the thermostat, no problem with the breaker, and no problem with the computer control card.

The problem was with one wire associated with the condensate pan float valve. A squirrel had nibbled through the insulation, nipped the wire and broken the electrical connection. This tripped a protective circuit that shut down the furnace. Easy fix, certainly, but fixing the furnace was only treating a symptom. The real problem was that squirrels have a taste for plastic and that they had easy access to the attic. The seriousness of the situation was revealed when further inspection showed additional sections of the home’s wiring gnawed to expose the bare copper wire. Now things were dangerous.

“There are certain shades of limelight that can ruin a girl’s complexion.” – Holly Golightly

As an interior designer who is obsessed with the right lighting but also strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible, I have been resistant to the cool hues of compact fluorescents during the current global shift away from incandescents. Imagine what particular people thought of the first light bulb compared to soft candlelight. Good news! Having recently researched for a renovation, I’m excited about LED advancements that simulate the warmth of incandescent. You no longer have to choose. For clarity, here’s a breakdown of household lighting options and their attributes in easy terms:

So you just bought a new garage door? It makes your home look brand new. Many homeowners don’t pay attention to their automatic garage doors after they initially install them, sometimes for years. Maintenance is crucial for your garage door to function properly. Otherwise, safety mechanisms could malfunction, and the life (and look) of your garage door will be shortened.

During a recent home review it was clear that the plain white laminate kitchen countertops, while in excellent condition, were destined for the scrap heap. The new owners were looking for something with more character; something warmer and richer in appearance and more durable as well. Options included stainless steel, cementitious conglomerates, synthetic composites, natural stone-epoxy resin combinations, marble, travertine and granite. Granite seemed to be the preferred choice. Granite is readily available, provides an array of colors and patterns, has a standardized installation process and is accepted by the marketplace. Besides, it’s impervious, impenetrable, indestructible… well, not quite.

Looking to update an outdated 1980s master bathroom, these Roswell homeowners sought a spa-like atmosphere for their new space from Attention to Detail Home Remodeling. First, the floor plan was redesigned to be more user-friendly, including larger his-and-hers closets. Next, outdated fixtures and materials were replaced with new ones. Multi-spray showerheads, a jetted soaking tub by MTI Baths and crystal knobs/pulls were selected to create a sense of tranquility. Herringbone-pattern tile floors are low-maintenance and make the room look bigger, while more natural light, a request of the homeowners, is brought in by a new window over the tub.
