Making Your Home Energy Efficient

Many homeowners pay a high price to keep their homes comfortable, with no idea where to begin when it comes to energy improvements. Improving your home’s energy efficiency doesn’t have to be an expensive guessing game. A home performance assessment is the key to making your home more efficient, comfortable and healthy.

What is an assessment?

A home performance assessment is a more comprehensive version of a home energy audit. It pinpoints exactly where your home is losing energy and wasting your money. This integrated whole-house approach allows you to identify and correct your home’s efficiency problems - not just the symptoms. For example, you could just blow insulation into your attic, but you may not be targeting the source of your home’s efficiency problems. An assessment eliminates any guessing and ensures you’re making the right improvements toward better indoor air quality, comfort and energy efficiency.

How does it work?

The test, administered through Georgia Power’s Home Energy Improvement Program, is a day-long set of evaluations, diagnostics and safety testing that identifies problem areas in your home using state-of-the-art equipment. The results are then put into modeling software and compiled into a detailed report with a list of the best possible improvements for your home. This may or may not include: insulation, air and duct sealing, or HVAC options. Once the improvements are made, your home will be assessed again to measure the expected energy reduction. You can see exactly how much energy you’ve saved.

In addition to lower energy bills, multiple rebates could maximize your out-of-pocket savings. With these kinds of incentives, the cost of the assessment and improvements is drastically reduced. There’s never been a better time to make energy efficient upgrades to your home.
