Room & Board Introduces Soren Chair

The abundance of natural light is one of the reasons Room & Board’s showroom is one of my favorites in the city.  It also happens to be in a 100-year-old meatpacking/slaughter house, which contributes to the cool, lofty vibe throughout the 34,000-square-foot space.

I was lucky enough to have Julie Dewald take the time to share the history of the building and Room & Board’s 2011 collection of furniture with me. The must-see (or really must-sit-on) piece is the Soren Chair.

The contemporary chair’s lines just pull you in, and the comfort will keep you there. Julie shared the story of how a weathered version of this chair caught the eye of the owners as they passed windows of a small antique dress shop. It inspired them to create a new version of the original 1953 design by Helge Sibast, and as a thank you to that store owner, they sent one as a gift.  Personally, I think that is very cool, and I am inspired by their actions.

Time goes quickly at the Room & Board showroom, so I am looking forward to my next trip when I can explore the old Smoke Room section of the building. And I’m looking forward to seeing Room & Board’s pieces in the upcoming Roswell Womans Club 2011 Showcase Home Tour. Hope to see you there!
